UGHHHHH
I want to like it but I just can’t... it’s too stupid. Like OK.
All a Supra TRD needs is an S55 and carbon ceramic brakes. it’s all it needs to slay.
Maybe that carbon fibre spolier.

It’s overwrought, Too F&F/NFS game for my taste. That Door garnish especially.

We would all like it a lot more if they’d rip out its hard and spine and put in a Toyota engine and 6-speed.

So they're turning TRD into what Nismo has been doing with appearance packages and no power bumps. Lame.

Yup. Also Subaru is also guilty of this.

Carbon door add on to get rid of a fake vent. 2 levels deep into extraneous design.

Shoot I forgot about how many fake vents it has. Meanwhile even the acclaimed Stinger GT is guilty of it. Why auto industry?

I like that they are admitting that it’s a garnish. Like “what does that do?”
Nothing it’s just a garnish

I initially read it as door garish, and I think that’s a good description.

The next step I want Toyota to make is making Gazoo Racing performance cars. Despite the name, I don’t even think “TRD” appears on the TS050 or their other race cars. It’s time to make a “GR” line, mainly because I think it’d take too much time to explain why I have a Yaris Gazoo or a Supragazoo.
After thinking of this, it turned out that Toyota already came up with a concept for a GR Supra: https://www.toyota.com/concept-vehicles/supra/gr-concept/
Anyway, that’s what I want Toyota to pursue. It’ll probably be a somewhat regretful situation when GR-Line branding starts appearing on your Camry or a RAV4 All-Trac GR.
To kick it all off, Toyota should take their new Supra, put some GR racing kit on it (diffusers, wings, weight reduction) and then stick the 1LR-GUE from the Lexus LFA in it.
I can’t believe the ridiculous shit I’ve just typed here but I’m going to leave it.

Where does Subaru do this? STI only exists on models with performance upgrades. They have Sport which they use like Nissan uses Nismo but Sport has never meant actual performance upgrades for Subaru.

It’s better than many competitors, but it’s not a crazy game changing car. I’m waiting to see what Kia will do it... I think it really deserves an electric AWD powertrain, and it could be a credible Model 3 competitor.

I mean my Crossfire had a big fake side vent design and I liked it. But yea , just make them real. Things are better when they're functional.

tS, aka tuned by STI
Type RA.
S20x series has a power bump, but is usually about a lot of other stuff.

They’ve done that with a couple cars overseas. There’s a GR Mark X and a GR Yaris, off the top of my head. The Mark X is notable in that it’s the only Mark X ever available with a manual.

The door trim pieces look better than the fake vents, although probably better in body-color.
And don’t extend a body cut line behind the door with a protrusion on that line on the door, it isn’t a good resolution... but it isn’t worse than a ridiculous fake intake in the side of a door skin.

Every one of those you listed is a performance upgrade over the car they are based on.

maybe a bit of handling tuning, a bit of aero, and some dress up, especially tS models, which are very thin on value added. Type RA has a bit more value, but generally not more than a couple of horsepowe r added .
O ther than the S20x series, they are generally NOT a power upgrade, and S20x series have not been available in the US until S209, and an S209 costs about as much as a new Supra/BMW, which in itself is ridiculous for 340hp in an EJ25-series engine , when Ford EcoBoost engines do that in regular production models.
The point was, Subaru does the same sorts of things as Nismo, and now TRD Supra appears to be doing . Handling, aero, and dress-up, no big power upgrade.

“If you look at the vehicle today, there’s holes all over the body,” Tada said. “They’re just capped on the production car. Those are for the racing model. When the customer goes and converts it to a racing car, or adds those necessary components, those caps come off very easily. So, it’s already pre-made, ready to accommodate.”
So TRD is effectively putting a cap on the functional-looking but already capped fender vent. Because racecar??

That looks horrible. Hey, you know all those fake ass vents and trim pieces on the car? Lets call more attention to them by making them carbon!
